Do you dread Mondays and find yourself spending all day Sunday worrying about the week ahead? Instead of doing something productive or just enjoying the end of your weekend, your mind is racing thinking about all the things you have to do the following week. We hear this all the time but rarely hear great solutions. Recently, a client of mine shared that they have gotten in the habit of scheduling all of their appointments for the week ahead on Sundays. If she doesn’t do this, she usually doesn’t get the appointment and feels out of sorts all week. Just a week later, another client shared with me that she also does this on Sundays, and schedules all of her appointments online using her phone.
So of course, I had to try it- and it’s changed my life! So this had me thinking, “how can we use Sundays to reset”?
Since I started to adopt the strategy my clients shared with me, I now get all the appointments that I need out of the way and my weeks seem so much more effortless. My hair gets cut on time, I get healthcare appointments when I need them, and I can basically take care of myself much more easily. It doesn’t take up too much of your time either, it just takes practice. Once you get into the routine of it, it feels like second nature and is so worth the little bit of effort. You don’t need to scramble last minute for an appointment or move other obligations around You’re basically set up and prepared for the whole week!
This method can be used for other areas of your life as well. Just think about what you stress about for the week ahead on Sundays. Is it the extra chores you have to do? Is it the grocery shopping you try to squeeze in after work during the week? Maybe it’s that subscription you keep forgetting to cancel but haven’t had the time to take care of. Whatever it is, you can use Sundays as a “reset” for the week ahead. Picking up your groceries and meal prepping might be the thing that makes your week that much easier. A Sunday re-set can be whatever you need to it to be, as long as it makes taking care of yourself easier.
One practice that I adopted over the winter was to ask myself every Sunday, “What are you tolerating”? This doesn’t have to pertain to a big issue. More often than not, it was the spam caller that I kept “rejecting” instead of telling them to take me off their list. Or the storm door that blew off the safety latch and was continuously banging my front porch every time my kids went through the door. I just added this one line item to my “to do” list and I found that the stress “noise” in my life started to decrease. Over the course of 8 weeks, I had solved a bunch of small problems in my life – and it feels amazing.
So this weekend, ask yourself. “What am I tolerating?” and “What appointments do I need to set up online for me to take care of myself?” Taking care of one small thing at a time will make each week that much easier.
I have found these practices to be invaluable and I hope that they make your life a little bit easier.
