Nothing is more frustrating for a golfer to have debilitating pain during the short summer season here in New England. We see golfer’s struggling with cranky elbows, spasmed backs and unhappy shoulders. Did you know that acupuncture can alleviate the pain, loosen the tightness and help you get good rotation in your golf swing? Acupuncture can reduce inflammation in your cranky golf elbow, even if you have struggled with this issue for years. We can also use acupuncture and cupping to get deep into your upper neck, shoulder, and back muscles to loosen up the musculature. This will help any golfer achieve full range of motion.
Within the last 20 years several studies have found acupuncture to be more effective in the treatment of elbow pain compared to western medical interventions (Gellman, H. 1996). For example, in the journal, Pain (1983) 21 out of 34 patients who were treated with acupuncture had significant resolution or became completely free of pain. Many of these patients had been given one or more steroid injections previously without improvement. In fact, of the 26 patients in the control group who received steroid injections, only 8 reported improvement.
Our sports therapy specialist, Paul Hagerty, helps golfer’s get back on the links. Book your appointment today and be sure to tell him at what point in your swing you are experiencing pain. Paul can also evaluate your back and hips to help you get the most out of your golf game this summer.
