Can you believe it’s already June? It feels like just yesterday we were looking to 2022 with goals, inspiration, and plans to make this year a great one. Maybe you accomplished your health goals, or maybe you’re still working on them! For a lot of us, life has taken us in new directions and our focus has been drawn elsewhere. No matter what your health and wellness looked like in the first half of the year, now is a perfect time to reflect and find actionable steps to make the most of this year. Instead of being hard on yourself, reset your mind to focus on growth! We know having unreasonable expectations doesnt really benefit us, so instead, we’ve come up with questions to help you find answers to what you need to focus on! Ready to reset for the rest of the year? Read on!
Have you been showing up for yourself and your self-care?
We know how crazy life can be these days. We have endless schedules, to-do lists, and projects to work on. But, we also know that the most important thing to show up for is ourselves. Have you been finding time in the day, even if only for a few minutes, to take care of yourself? Maybe self-care to you is a short mediation with deep, intentional breaths. For others, it could be a quick workout or walk around the neighborhood. If your days are too hectic, shutting off your phone and spending time with yourself before bed to wind down from the day is a beautiful way to practice self-care. We all have different needs, but honoring them and giving ourselves time to just be, is so so important! So, if you feel like the first half of the year has been a crazy, hectic, fog-like blur, maybe you need to carve out more time in the day for yourself. Really ask yourself, how am I showing up for myself today? How can I find time to relax, do something I love, or check in with myself? Mental health matters, and should be included in everyone’s health goals! So if you haven’t been making yourself a priority this year, shift your focus for the next 6 months and do something small each day, just for you!
Are there health issues you’ve been tolerating, that you should be addressing?
Chronic constipation, migraines, fatigue, sound all too familiar? Though these symptoms aren’t uncommon, they definitely suggest your body needs some love! These symptoms are often overlooked but make balancing life and feeling productive difficult. If you have chronic health issues that you’ve been ignoring, find time to address them. Acknowledge that you deserve to feel your healthiest, and full of energy to do the things you love! Whether you try to clean up your diet, start implementing vitamins and probiotics into your routine, or schedule some acupuncture appointments-make small actionable steps to address your health concerns! Pay attention to what causes these symptoms to flare up, and what eases them. Do more of what eases them! You will thank yourself in the long run when you start seeing progress and feeling more like yourself again.
What do you want your health to look like at the end of 2022?
Everyone has different health goals, but knowing what yours are can help you work toward themes. Maybe yours revolve around diet, and you want to be sticking to clean whole foods. For others, it may be more physical! Increasing cardiovascular ability, flexibility, daily average steps, or just generally increasing activity! All of these are achievable when you slowly work towards them. Figure out what aspects of your health you want to focus on, and visualize your ideal state of being! Over the next six months, take small steps toward those goals and remember that consistency is more important than perfection!
What are the steps you need to take?
It can be more intimidating to have a giant, far-away goal looming over you! Instead of focusing on the end game, focus on the journey! What steps are needed to reach your goal? If your goals are diet-related, hold yourself accountable daily for small healthy swaps! Instead of snacking mindlessly, focus on 3 whole meals a day. If you have more physically centered health goals, just start moving. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as it gets your blood pumping and body working. Try out different things until you find what you like, and then increase your frequency. For those who work desk jobs (a lot of us!) get up and walk around every hour to keep your body from feeling stiff. If you have specific goals like flexibility or weight loss, work on them daily in ways you know work. It doesnt need to be complicated, you only need to dedicate yourself to the best you can. Celebrate your wins and forgive yourself for the time you need breaks! Remember, goals are meant to help you grow. They are not linear, and they don’t have deadlines. Using the calendar year can help us with motivation and progress tracking, but at the end of the day- we can take as much time as we need.
Return to these questions when you feel lost in your health goals, and let compassion and intention lead you to a healthier you!
