What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the use of small, flexible needles to elicit a healing response from the body to address a wide range of health concerns. If you would like an in-depth explanation of acupuncture, please sign up to receive a copy of our book, How to Thrive in the Modern World: A Layperson’s Guide to Chinese Medicine.
Do I need to believe in it for it to help me?
Absolutely not! Most people don’t “believe” in acupuncture if they have never experienced it before. We will walk you through the treatment every step of the way. You should still experience benefits whether or not you believe in acupuncture. A positive outlook and/or a sense of humor is always appreciated but not necessary!
How long will the treatment take? Will I get a treatment during the initial visit?
Yes, you will definitely have a treatment at the initial visit. The initial visit will take anywhere from 50 – 70 minutes and follow-ups generally take 45 – 60 minutes.
What should I wear?
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing.
Should I bring anything to the treatment?
Please bring a list of medication, your insurance card, and any labs or tests relevant to your condition.
Do the needles hurt?
No! We use small, flexible needles that do not hurt. Occasionally, you might feel a slight pinch, but for the most part, you will not feel much. Acupuncture should not be painful!
Do you reuse the needles?
No! Our malpractice insurance would be through the roof if we reused needles! Seriously, our needles are disposable and they are used only once and then put into a bio hazard box. We contract a bio hazard disposal service to remove our biohazard boxes from the office and dispose of the medical waste properly.
What does acupuncture treat?
We have a list of conditions that we treat here.
How many visits will it take until I see results?
That depends upon how long you have had your condition, the intensity/parameters of your condition and any other mitigating factors. An acute low back sprain might respond in 1 -2 visits. Chronic low back pain might take 4 – 6 visits to see a significant change. At your first visit, your acupuncturist will lay out a timeline of when you will see changes. We want to see you feel better as quickly as possible!
Do you take insurance?
Yes! Please call your insurance company to verify if your particular policy covers acupuncture. Or, please call our office and we can verify your benefits for you. Please allow 1-2 business days for our office to verify your benefits. If you do have benefits, we are more than happy to bill directly to your insurance company.
